The Imps manager dropped Jake Sheridan and Todd Jordan. Danny Rowe was brought into man the left-hand side, while Luke Foster was called into protect the back four, with Alan Power moving over to the right-hand side.
Lincoln started in a positive manner, getting hold of possession in the first five minutes and forcing a couple of early corners.
They kept the pressure on and Ben Tomlinson went close with a glancing header just wide of the far post.
Lincoln City: Farman; Miller, Boyce, Brown, Newton; Foster; Power, Fofana, Nolan, Rowe; Tomlinson.
Luton were happy to soak up the early pressure, but they showed their ability to get forward on seven minutes when a ball from goalkeeper Mark Tyler was latched onto by Mark Cullen on the left-hand side of the Imps box, he chipped it over Alan Power and it forced Paul Farman to stretch and save.
Farman was back in action a minute later as he had to get down low to his left-hand post to save a weak shot from Cullen.
It was Lincoln, though, who broke the deadlock. A long throw in to the box from Tom Miller was not cleared properly and Power pounced to drill the ball low and into the bottom corner.
On 25 minutes Luton responded with a teriffic spell of pressure and it ended with Guttridge finding the space to strike from just on the edge of the box, but he was just wide of the post.
Guttridge was again in the thick of the action on 30 minutes as he worked his way to the edge of the box and tried a curling effort that had Farman stretching to collect at the top corner.
Luton thought they had leveled on 43 minutes. Stevenson's shot was saved brilliantly by Farman down low to his left-hand post and Cullen followed up, but he was offside.
