A 26-year-old man has admitted murdering a dad-of-three in a "frenzied attack" on the dance floor of a Lincoln bar.

Stuart Whitelaw, 40, was stabbed in front of horrified party goers at the Rugkutta event at Mezz bar on May Bank Holiday Monday.

Joe James Palmer pleaded guilty to murder when he appeared at Lincoln Crown Court.

Prosecution barrister Michael Cranmer-Brown told the hearing it was accepted that Palmer may not have intended to kill Mr Whitelaw.

He said: "It was however a vicious, sustained and frenzied attack that he perpetrated on Stuart Whitelaw in revenge for injuries he had suffered some months earlier."

Palmer, of Allenby Close, Lincoln, faces life in prison when he is sentenced in October.

A charge of perverting the course of justice by giving false information to the police against Palmer's girlfriend, Charmaine Wells, was dropped by the prosecution.
