He is described as 5'6" with grey hair and a grey beard.
It is believed that he was wearing a blue T shirt, dark bottoms and possibly slippers.
Police believe that he took his Jack Russell dog out for a walk sometime after then and it is also believed sometime later a woman went to the house with the dog and left it there.
Police would like that woman to get in touch with them so that they can establish where and when she found the dog which may help the search.
The area has been searched by police and they used a helicopter with heat seeking equipment without success.
The search of the area around John's home will continue today using Louth Search and Rescue Dogs and a police helicopter and further ground searches by officers.
