Mablethorpe Town Council pledges to make market a big success
A COASTAL town marked a historic day as its council officially took over the running of the weekly market.
Mablethorpe Town Council has plans to make the resort's weekly Thursday market bigger and better to help support local businesses and the economy.

The market transfer came after East Lindsey District Council announced changes they wanted to make to the markets they run in the district, which included a proposal to move the market in Mablethorpe to a Tuesday.
The town council were keen to retain the market on a Thursday and so worked alongside the district council to take up the opportunity of managing the market themselves.

Together with the support of Mablethorpe Town Partnership, the market was moved from the Station Sports Centre car park to the High Street, and the town council has not looked back since.
Mablethorpe Mayor Joyce Taylor said: "Mablethorpe was officially granted a market charter on May 10, 1253. It is nice now to see it coming back under the town council and we have more stalls than we ever had. Since moving the market in April, it is increasing footfall into the town and bringing more people here."
She thanked the market traders, the town council's market working group, the town clerk and East Lindsey District Council.
Town crier Roy Palmer gave a proclamation where he announced Thursday, November 1 as a historic day.
He said: "The town council has pledged that Mablethorpe Market will be made better and hopefully in the future, bigger. Loyal stallholders be assured that our council will listen to you. Citizens of Mablethorpe this market is in your hands – use it or lose it. Make it the success that it deserves to be."
The town council will be purchasing new stalls and has plans to hold special markets in the future.
Councillor Craig Leyland, portfolio holder at East Lindsey District Council in charge of the markets said: "This is good news for Mablethorpe, traders and businesses and I would like to personally thank Mablethorpe Town Council for taking the opportunity to engage with us. I wish them every success and hope it attracts more people to benefit the town."
