A MAJOR arterial route into Gainsborough will be closed for a fortnight – but only for a short distance.

Road repairs and resurfacing work on the A156 at Fenton – between the town and Lincoln – will begin shortly.

Contractors working for Lincolnshire County Council will be on site for the duration of the repairs.

From Monday, May 28 until Friday, June 8, the A156 will be closed will be closed between the north-western most point of the village and the junction with Kettlethorpe Road.

"Traffic will be diverted via the A57, A1133 and vice-versa. The road will reopen to motorists over the weekends and bank holidays," said project leader Tim Mawson.

"We have planned to reopen this section of road for June 4 and 5 to keep disruption to motorists to a minimum during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations."
