Man arrested after death crash on A1 near South Witham in Lincolnshire

A 24-year-old man has died after a two-car crash on the A1 in Lincolnshire.

The collision happened on the southbound carriageway north of the turn off to South Witham, near Bourne, on Saturday.

The man, of Glenrothes in Fife, Scotland, was driving a blue Ford Focus.

He was taken to Peterborough City Hospital but later died from his injuries.

The 30-year-old driver of another car, from Kirton near Boston, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and later released on bail.

He was driving a blue Volkswagen Passat and was taken to Peterborough City Hospital with minor injuries, but discharged after treatment.

The incident happened just before 5pm and the road was reopened at around 11.40pm.

Lincolnshire Police are appealing for information from anyone who saw the collision or the cars in the minutes before the incident.
