The two watches were very cheap and not worth anything.

A Lincolnshire Trading Standards spokesman said: 'In the vast majority of cases, these people are scammers and the plea for money is a deception.  "

"These people prey on the good nature of our residents and Lincolnshire Trading Standards advise anyone who is approached not to give cash to strangers.

"Always stop, think and be sceptical before handing over any money."

“I see all the people that belittle the person above, have now stopped. You all need to feel totally ashamed of yourselves, as I am sure you have elderly relatives or have had, that have been confused in the past..”

“Is this actually a scam or a con? If he had been selling genuine Tag watches for £20-00 and then it turned out to be a cheap copy, thats a scam.

All he did was to claim he had been robbed and needed money for fuel, the victim "chose" to give them £20 so it wasnt a crime at all as they could have said no. How have the Police concluded that the man hadnt run out of petrol or been robbed?”

“Unfortunately the police can do nothing about it as no crime has actually been committed.

I always thought that 'obtaining money by deception' (which is what this effectively is) was an offence so why can the Police not do anything about it?

I am sorry this has happened to your Father SAZ78.”

“This article really does not deserve the abuse some of you have put.
It never ceases to amaze me how some people jump straight in with there careless comments without knowing the exact facts.
I am the daughter of the above victim and maybe people should think before putting comments about him being an idiot and that he deserved it.
As Holly as commented these conmen are preying on the elderly and vunerable.
This article was issued to try and warn other people to take extra care.
Unfortunately the police can do nothing about it as no crime has actually been commited.
I do hope when those of you who have made derogatory comments get older none of this happens to you!!!! SHAME ON YOU.”
