A man has been punched and robbed in a Lincoln street.

The 22-year-old victim was walking along Waterside North towards Stamp End at around 9.50pm last night when he walked past a group of four people.

One of the group punched him in the face, causing him to drop his mobile phone on the floor. The offender then picked up the phone and walked off with it.

The victim followed him and the offender turned to him and demanded money. The victim told him he had no money and the offender walked off with the phone in the direction of Broadgate.

The offender is described as a white man, aged about 50, of chubby build and with facial hair.

Also in the group were a white woman, aged about 30, wearing a beige, knitted dress, and another man and woman, both wearing black.

The victim of the assault sustained bruising to his face.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed the incident or who saw the group of people described is asked to contact Lincolnshire Police on the non-emergency number 101.

“To all those who commented adversely on my posting, ever heard of irony? If you look at the list, you will see that Caracas for example has 100 murders per day I did say that Lincoln would have to go quite far down the list. Lincoln is one of the safest places in the UK, which was the point of the joke. I was trying to poke fun at the local news which always tries to raise newsworthiness by exaggeration.. I lived in Nottingham for 30 years, and Lincoln is nothing compared with that. Still, what's the point of a joke if you have to explain it?”

“Had a brilliant time in Cape Town, which is where my photo is from. However I stuck to places there were well policed and didn't go out into the areas where you are going face a lot of problems. This goes for London where I have yet to see any trouble because I limit visits to dodgy bits. And with the greatest respect, if I was walking in certain bits of Lincoln late at night I would probably keep my phone in my pocket unless it was a mega urgent phone call.”

“"Lincoln is getting nearly as bad as Cape Town."

Yes, in much the same way that a paper cut is nearly as bad as multiple sclerosis.”

“Lincoln is getting nearly as bad as Cape Town. I am going to submit Lincoln to this list. Might have to go down quite far though.
