Gainsborough Trinity boss Steve Housham has brought former Manchester United ace Mark Wilson to the club.

The 33-year-old has signed terms and will play for the club on a game to game basis. Having played Champions League and Premier League football with the Reds between 1999 and 2001, Housham believes Wilson's arrival will inject more competition for places in the Trinity line-up.

"Mark has been training with us for a couple of weeks and we are happy to have him on board," said Housham. "You can see in training that the quality is there and he is certainly fit enough."

Wilson is free to play in the FA Trophy and will be included in the Trinity squad for the trip to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday. The central midfielder has most recently been at Oxford United, but has also had spells at Middlesbough, Stoke and Doncaster.

"We have a very busy period coming up and a few injuries, including Shane Clarke, so we need to have cover in that area," Housham added. "He will be in the squad on Saturday and we will assess him as we go."
