Marc Newsham calls on Boston United to end FA Cup woe
MARC NEWSHAM has called on Boston United to consign their horrific FA Cup record to history after the Pilgrims were handed a golden chance to reach the final qualifying round.
Saturday's hard-fought 1-0 win over Kettering Town secured United's place in the third qualifying round, where they will face Tadcaster Albion away on Saturday, October 6.

Tadcaster play three levels below Blue Square Bet North in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.
The Yorkshire side have enjoyed an impressive start to the season and booked their place in the third qualifying round with a 4-1 victory over Skelmersdale United.

However, Boston will be favourites to progress to the fourth and final qualifying round where Blue Square Bet Premier sides, including local rivals Lincoln City and Grimsby Town, enter the competition.
Following a string of exits to lower-league opposition, United have failed to reach the first round proper since returning to non-league in 2007 – and striker Newsham says it is time that record came to an end.
"We've not had a cup run since I've been at the club. Saturday's win was the first one I remember since we beat Loughborough a few season ago. That's the only other time we've won in the FA Cup in my time," said Newsham.
"It's been playing on our minds. We want a cup run, it's good for the supporters and good for us.
"You never know how far you can go so it was important we got the win on Saturday."
The FA Cup is also good from a financial point of view with Saturday's victory – courtesy of a Ben Fairclough strike – netting the Pilgrims £4,500 in prize money.
But before their date with Tadcaster, Boston face a trip to Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday and a home clash with county rivals Gainsborough Trinity on Tuesday (October 2) in Blue Square Bet North.
The Pilgrims have fond memories of Bradford's Horsfall Stadium after clinching promotion there in 2010.
Newsham was among the scorers as United won the UniBond League Premier Division play-off final 2-1 after extra-time.
Two years later Bradford finally joined the Pilgrims in the division and have made a solid start to the season.
"Those are good memories," recalled Newsham. "Bradford will be a tough game. We had some good games against them when we were in the same league.
"But we've been in this league for a couple of years while they've just come up so they'll be a new team and they'll have different players.
"We'll prepare right and after Saturday's win, we'll go into it full of confidence."
