THE hunt is on for maritime memorabilia as part of a Boston in Bloom 2013 initiative to mark the town's heritage and links with the sea.

Plans are being hatched to give the Custom House Quay area a facelift and illustrate its historic connections with Boston's trading and fishing industries.

In-bloom organisers would especially like to hear from anyone with heavy-duty artefacts, such as anchors and chains from Boston's past to help give a maritime feel.

Anyone who can help should contact Ian Farmer, the council's partnerships and sustainability manager, on 01205 314225 or email ian.farmer@boston .gov.uk.

Householders and those involved in businesses in those streets along the judging route, to be announced shortly, will be asked to do all they can to support the town's 2013 bid.

They can improve chances of success by doing something as simple as ensuring they take their wheelie bins back onto their properties as soon as possible after they have been emptied. Gardens can be kept tidy and weed free, frontages litter free and businesses are once again encouraged to join the Boston BID hanging basket scheme – contact BID manager Niall Armstrong for details – phone 01205 358800 or email niall@bostonbid.co.uk

The themes for 2013 are 'edible', focusing on attractive displays of herbs, and purple and gold, reflecting the 60th anniversary of the coronation of The Queen.
