Market Rasen pipped to McKinnells League title by Boston
BOSTON claimed the McKinnells League Premier Division crown with a six wicket win over Heckington.
Batting first Heckington posted a total of 181 for seven, their highest league total of the season.
In response Boston reached the target for the loss of just four wickets to win the title for the second occasion in three seasons.
Second placed Market Rasen did all they could to push Boston for the title with a 49-run win against Nettleham, but they needed Boston to slip up at the final hurdle for them to retain their title.
Facing Nettleham, Rasen hit the days' top total of 215 for eight.
This included the days' only century-maker, Dale Christie, who made 104.
When Nettleham batted, opener Phil Brown top scored with 31 but Rasen bowler Gary Bierlein registered his third five-wicket haul of this campaign, with five for 36 to see Nettleham bowled out for 166 and victory for Rasen by 49 runs for the closest finish of the weekend.
In Division One, the only game of the day saw BBH 1st complete their programme as champions, but their match with Owmby failed to reach a conclusion as bad light saw the match abandoned.
BBH hit the days top total of 245 for eight with their top scorer being Dave Whapplington with 52. Owmby made 84 for eight in response before conditions got too dangerous and the game was concluded.
In Division Two, there was also only one game which in reality was a non-event which saw Waddington beat relegated Carholme by 141 runs.
Waddington made 180 for eight which included 92 from Billy Evans.
Then Gary Evans returned figures of 9-5-9-6 as Carholme were bowled out for 39 giving Waddington victory by the highest winning margin of the day.
The final game in Division Three not only saw Cherry Willingham 2nds become league champions, but also saw Reepham avoid relegation as they picked up the points they needed to send Nettleham 2nds down instead.
Cherry posted a total of 192 for nine with Scott Coupland making 57 and despite Reepham only making 66, they picked up four very important bowling points. Keith Whiteley in a rare appearance for the Cherry Sunday side collected five for 27.
Division Four saw perhaps the days biggest game with the two promoted side, Revesby and Marshalls, battling it out for the title.
Revesby's only defeat of the season had been in the corresponding fixture with Marshalls. Batting first Revesby made 168 for five with Ian Roberts top scoring with 80, his third 50 of the season.
Then to the surprise of everyone, Marshalls totally capitulated, being bowled out for the seasons' fourth lowest total of just 32.
Jamie Lewis took five for seven, Simon May three for 20 and Lawrie Stedman two for one to see Revesby to a 136 run victory and the title.
Also in this division Nocton closed their programme entertaining Aisthorpe.
Nocton had won their only home game of the season in their penultimate home game but it was not to be back to back wins as they were skittled out for 34 allowing Aisthorpe to win by nine wickets.
The only other game scheduled, between Hykeham 2nds and BBH 2nds was awarded to Hykeham by the management committee.

“What are Boston doing in the LINCOLN league. Can't imagine many people would want to travel that distance on a Sunday afternoon, no wonder they won it.”
