A BUSY 12 months of trading is being marked when the Gainsborough's Farmers' Market reaches a milestone in the town tomorrow.

It is celebrating its first birthday – after its new look and location were unveiled exactly a year ago.

Gainsborough's Town Crier Terry Stubbings unveiled the eye-catching purpose-built stalls and new location along the central walkway at the Marshall's Yard retail complex on March 13, last year.

And, since the new market was launched it's gone from strength to strength.

It received FARMA accreditation in September – and also launching a second farmers' market day every month.

A host of new traders and products have also been welcomed to the market including Les's Wet Fish, the Pampered Pig and Num Num Num Cupcakes – and special events and cooking demonstrations are a regular feature.

Jane and Terry Tomlinson's award-winning Red Hill Farm free range pork products will be available.

The couple, from Blyton Carr near Gainsborough, are fresh from their win in the East of England regional local food "Oscars" in the annual Countryside Alliance Awards.

And they will find out at the end of this month if they've beaten the other winners from across the UK to take the national title.

Other Lincolnshire favourites are also regulars at the market including Oslinc, Mount Pleasant Windmill and Lincolnshire Plum Loaf.

The market continues to encourage and support newcomers to provide West Lindsey with a high-quality food market.

"The feedback we have had about the market is just fantastic," said Marshall's Yard assistant centre manager Medi Parry.

"And our own research shows we are attracting shoppers from a much wider area on farmers' market days – which is also great for Gainsborough.

"It's great to be able to offer the people of the town and visitors alike high quality local produces twice a month by also providing families and food-lovers with an enjoyable day out.

"There is no doubt that the market has gone from strength to strength over the last 12 months and we are delighted with that.

"We are confident that the market will continue to grow over the coming years and continue to deliver a fantastic array of local produce.'

Gainsborough Farmers' Market takes place on the second and fourth Saturday of every month from 9am to 3pm.
