Metal thieves in 'dangerous' raid on Anglian Water works in Lincolnshire
A WATER company has condemned the “incredibly dangerous” actions of metal thieves at one of its plants.
Overnight on Monday, June 18, entry was gained to Anglian Water’s sewage treatment works on Bolton’s Lane, Ingoldmells and metal items removed.

The offenders broke the chain on the main gate to gain entry and then forced their way into a number of buildings on the premises.
Steel scaffold poles, wire cabling and steel mesh were amongst the items stolen during the burglary.

Antony Innes, from Anglian Water, said: “Breaking into an active sewage treatment works is incredibly dangerous and anyone doing so runs the very real risk of death or serious injury.
“The break-in at Bolton’s Lane sewage treatment works thankfully, resulted in no damage or risk to the operating site.
“However, a number of metal items including pumps, gearboxes and motors were stolen from a storage area.
“The cost to repair the damage and replace the stolen items is not known at this stage.”
The incident took place some time between 5.30pm on June 18 and 7.40am the following morning.

“It's almost a shame it wasn't more dangerous and didn't kill or seriously maim one of these 'offenders'. I know from personal experience that we could use less of this kind of scum in our society. I wonder if anyone would have been able to tell the difference between them and the actual s**t if they had fallen in?”
