THE Milkybar Kid is strong and tough – and by day, he fixes cars at a Volvo dealership.

Thanks to a new TV ad campaign, Justin Andrews, a 38-year-old mechanic from Lincoln, is hoping to realise his childhood dream of playing the Milkybar Kid.

The new Milkybar campaign was launched this month. It urges people across the country to embrace their inner child and act as the chocolate mascot.

By going on the Milkybar website, chocolate enthusiasts can record their own video singing the famous catchy theme tune.

Mr Andrews, who lives in Lincoln and works at the city's Volvo dealership, said getting the chance to play the Milkybar Kid fulfilled a lifelong dream.

He said: "As a child, I had blond hair and blue eyes – so naturally, I aspired to be the Milkybar Kid.

"I'm 38 now, so this is my last chance to live that dream.

"I think I still look a bit like the Milkybar Kid – but obviously a little bit of an older version.

"I saw the advert on telly one morning and went on the website to have a look.

"You send in auditions online and the site has face recognition which automatically puts the hat and glasses on you.

"I didn't have a hat or sheriff's badge to hand at the time.

"Then you have to sing the Milkybar song. Thankfully, I knew the words already from when I was a child. You never forget the Milkybar song.

"I thought it was pretty funny at the time – and so did my friends. They're still laughing about it and think they will be for a long time.

"I still enjoy the odd Milkybar – why not?"

Michelle Roberts, brand manager for Milkybar, said: "There is a Milkybar Kid in all of us, and plenty of us dreamed as children of becoming the Kid.

"With the launch of Milkybar Raisin and Biscuit, we're offering all adults the chance to relive that dream and join the Ungrow Up campaign.

"The Milkybar Kid is a much-loved character and those are tough cowboy boots to fill, so we're excited to see how the public take on the challenge.

"But only the best is good enough for the Milkybar Kid – so we urge people to come and show us you've got what it takes."
