Motorists are being warned that as temperatures drop into the evening the roads could become even more dangerous.

John Siddle from Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership said: "The temperature looks like it is going to stay sub-zero all day and by the time the sun goes down, if the snow doesn't clear off the roads quickly, it will freeze over and turn to ice, making it really treacherous."

The Highways Agency has not recorded any road closures across Lincolnshire.

A Highways Agency spokesperson said: "Despite the adverse weather conditions all our roads in the Lincolnshire area are currently open and running well.

" Our roads will be treated whenever there is a risk of ice or snow, and our traffic officers are working around the clock to monitor our road network, deal with any incidents and keep traffic moving.

"Drivers are advised to remain vigilant and take extra care; they should check their local media for updated weather and travel advice before setting out on journeys.

"If they are travelling, they should keep up to date with weather and travel advice, heed warnings and electronic message signs and drive according to the conditions – leaving extra time for journeys and extra room for braking and avoiding sudden manoeuvres such as braking or changing lanes."

    “Shouldn't the headline read:
Minor road incidents and traffic on Lincolnshire roads due to drivers not driving to the conditions?”
