Almost 600 people helped to raise £34,500 by taking part in the St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice Moonlight Sleepwalk.

Men and women of all ages walked the six-mile route to raise funds for the hospice which needs to raise £3 million a year to continue providing its services.

Now in its fifth year, the walk starts and finishes at Yarborough Leisure Centre, passing the Brayford Waterfront, Lincoln Cathedral and the St Barnabas Hospice in Nettleham Road.

And the event has raised more than organisers had originally estimated.

Events organiser Becky Otter said: "We had hoped that everyone would raise about £60 each but we have had £34,500 pledged in sponsorships alone.

"We are delighted with the amount the moonlight walk has raised, it is a fantastic amount.

"All that money will go direct to provide patient care.

"The atmosphere was brilliant all night, it was buzzing.

"We have had lots of positive feedback and many people have told us how much they enjoyed it."
