Mum urges Lincolnshire residents to save empty packet of baby wipes for charity
A MUM of three from Alford is urging other parents, carers, child-
minders and nurseries to help collect empty baby wipe packets to turn into cash for charity.
Steph Squires has so far helped to collect nearly 500 empty packets for the Ellie’s Fund Brain Tumour Trust which earns two pence per packet towards research and supporting children with brain tumours.
This may not seem much, but in less than four months the trust has raised just over £1,010 from 50,424 donated packets.

Ellie's Fund was set up after the death of 14-year-old Ellie Othick-Bowmaker.
During the three years that she fought two brain tumours she helped to raise over £25,000 for charity and the trust was set up in her memory.
Steph said: “I collect empty packets from the children’s centre, school and two nurseries in Alford, but as we’re the only collection points in Lincolnshire that I am aware of, it would be fantastic if people in other areas would start collection points too.
“I love the fact that this Ellie’s legacy lives on through this charity and the fact that we’re stopping rubbish going to landfill is an added bonus.
“It really is a win, win situation. They say you don’t get anything in life for nothing, well in this case, Ellie’s fund does.”
The packets are sent directly to a recycling centre which credits Ellie's Fund with the money. The packets are then made into items such as plastic bibs, dustbins and watering cans.
Steph collects packets from collection points at Alford’s primary school, children’s centre, Qwackers nursery and Mon Ami nursery, as well as Hands-on Therapy at Woodthrope Hall and Smartie Pants Day Nursery in Mablethorpe.
She is urging other local businesses such as nurseries, children’s centres, schools and care homes to become collection points themselves and for local parents, childminders and anyone who uses baby wipes to drop the packets off at any of these collection points, or once they have more than 25 post them using a freepost label supplied.
Parcels of less than 25 packets can be dropped off at any of the local collection points or at the Louth Target office in Cornmarket.
