THE organisers of a naked charity calendar in Alford have smashed their fundraising target by more than £700.

Organised by mobile hairdressers Sandra Hall and Joanne Rook, Alford Exposed hoped to raise £2,000 towards Alford's Almshouses appeal but after a last minute coffee morning the total raised came to £2,732.26.

The money will help support the Sir Robert Christopher's Almshouses Charity 2012, which needs to raise a total of £425,000 to bring the Grade II listed properties on West Street back up to modern living standards.

Joanne said: "We had a really nice turn-out for the coffee morning where we presented the cheque to the trustees of the Almshouses.

"We have been really pleased with the community spirit shown and there have even been calls for us to do it again next year."

The calendar was released in November last year after Sandra and Joanne approached businesses in the town to make the calendar as diverse as possible.

Sandra said: "All scenes were taken from inside the business apart from a couple which caused a few strange looks from dogwalkers, joggers and the farmer on the public footpath near my house."

Chairman of the Trustees of Sir Robert Christopher's Almshouses Charity, David Wood said: "This has been a magnificent effort by all concerned and the trustees are very grateful.

"Our overall appeal for funds has met with tremendous support from the local community by individual donations and pledges, and especially from the members of the St. Wilfrid's Parish Church and the members of the Alford Methodist Church."

The trustees have also recently received a grant of £20,000 from the Garfield Weston Family Foundation.

Sandra said: "We would like to do some more fundraising next year but as for what – who knows just yet?"
