WJ HARRISON LEAGUE new-boys Nettleham FC started their campaign with a 2-0 win over fellow debutantes RM Imp on Friday.

Goals from S. Aisthorpe and A. Louth ensured the Nettles' campaign began in the right way.

On Saturday the third newcomers, Middle Rasen, entertained Ivy Tavern CSA.

Ivy Tavern finished third in the league last season and the two sides shared a 2-2 draw. Billy Munro bagged a brace for Ivy with Ian Smith and J. Robinson scoring for the home side.

Fulbeck United, who finished fifth, took on league runners-up Washingborough (who last season were known as FC Rustons United) with the visitors winning 4-3.

Will Conlon netted two along with J. Robinson and Lee Welbourn for Washingborough while James Barnett, Adam Swales and D. Fieldhouse scored for Fulbeck.

Sixth-placed Metheringham opened their season with a 2-0 victory over last season's fourth-placed team Waddington.

Andy Miles headed Meg into the lead inside 10 minutes and, although Waddington created numerous scoring chances, their shooting was way off target.

Matt Robinson increased the home side's lead just before the break and this was how the result ended.

In the final game, last season's seventh and eighth-placed sides met as Ruston Sports entertained Market Rasen Town. This match ended with a convincing 3-1 away win for Rasen thanks to goals from Brothwell, Short and an own goal. Emlyn Hughes netted a consolation goal for Rustons.

Blacksmiths and Pride have left the league.

Next weekend sees five of the league's sides in Lincs Junior Cup first round action.

Cherry Knights are due to visit Grantham League side Beehive. Metheringham travel to Grimsby side Immingham Bluestones. RM Imp make the short trip to Lincs League, Hykeham Town. Fulbeck host Boston League side Woodhall Spa and Waddington are at home to East Lincs Combination side Scamblesby.

Three league games are also scheduled with Ivy Tavern entertaining Market Rasen, Ruston Sports hosting Nettleham and Washingborough at home to Horncastle Town.
