A new £10 million 1 km dual carriageway along the A46 from Lincoln's Doddington Road roundabout to the Whisby Road junction is now fully open to motorists.

Work on the project began in August 2011 and was expected to last 14 months to last autumn.

The project aims to ease notorious traffic congestion between Lincoln and North Hykeham.

Road signs then went up indicating a spring 2013 finish.  The project is part of an agreement allowing Lincolnshire County Council to build the Teal Park business complex.

The improvements include a new roundabout at the junction with Whisby Road, with the aim of improving safety in the area and to help cope with extra traffic.

“Is it me or do the approach lanes to both roundabouts seem particularly narrow? Using the new stretch this morning LGVs seemed very close by.”

“I agree that it is daft to just dual this bit and that it leaves the worst bottlenecks in place but look at the cost of 1km - £10 million! And I assume Siemens were probably stung for a chunk of that. If someone can magic up another £20 million or so to do the other 2 stretches then fantastic but that kind of money just isn't there.”

“well said Ian,the only mistake you made there is talking common sense, the powers that be don't seem to understand it.Give it another 10 years and maybe they'll dual a bit more.”

“and to help cope with extra traffic.

Except the extra traffic will be going from Teal Park towards Newark on the overloaded single carriageway”
