New bar The Strait and Narrow to create 12 jobs in Lincoln
An empty city centre unit will come to life as a new bar, creating a dozen jobs.
The Strait and Narrow pub, on the site of the former Catalogue Shop, in The Strait, Lincoln, is to open in time for Easter with the creation of up to 12 jobs.

The boarded-up former Catalogue Shop in The Strait, Lincoln, is to become a new pub called The Strait and Narrow
Jez Nash, who has successfully gained planning permission for The Strait and Narrow, explained that the new venture in Lincoln city centre is aimed at the over-30s market.
"The plan is that it will simply be a nice place to have a drink and a good time," he said.
"We will be serving drink and food and we are looking at the possibility of live music, perhaps a guitar player at lunchtimes and a swing band in the evenings.
"There will be between eight and 10 staff working at the venue, as well as myself and my business partner.
"All the materials for the re-fit are being sourced within 25 miles and we are using local architects and builders."
Nearby residents have objected to the scheme over fears of anti-social behaviour, noise and loss of privacy.
Resident Allen Smith, of Danes Cottages, said: "Lincoln already has enough pubs and similar attractions – and problems – in the central to upper part of the city without creating any more.
"But this is a more serious intrusion into the lower part of The Strait because it moves even closer to where people live."
But planning consent comes with conditions including soundproofing.
And Mr Nash made more reassurances as he said there are also conditions with the premises licence.
"We are very keen to stress we want this to be a nice place to come to and a nice feature of The Strait which could actually be a good thing for people and their properties," he said.
"But I don't want to do it at the expense of anyone's home-life."
Chief executive of Lincoln Business Improvement Group Matt Corrigan said: "We are really pleased to see investment taking place in what has been a hard to let unit. It's been vacant for quite a period of time and in the current investment climate it's really good to see someone who is biting the bullet. It's great news for Britain's Great Street.
"We are really looking forward to seeing it open, it's about the only vacant property on the street and to have someone taking it on is really good."

“The closure of drink led pubs is three times that of food led pubs. The rate of closures of drink led pubs has decreased in the past two years, but still continues and will do so. The world has moved on, please catch up.”

“"Fortunately like smoking, they and their 'pubs' will soon be a thing of the past."
So you keep saying, mostly on articles about pubs opening. Maybe one day the irony of this will dawn on you.”

“Interesting to see the smoking, real men, real beer brigade are still around. Serious issues, we never hear from them, but mention smoking and beer and neanderthal man is up and running. Fortunately like smoking, they and their 'pubs' will soon be a thing of the past.”

“by TB789 Very well said, it's a pleasure to be able to go into a pub knowing that were not breathing in some one's filthy smoke, sometimes it's like having to walk through an ashtray to get into some public houses, it's also about time the council were giving fixed penalty notices for people disregarding there but ends onto the pavement.........”

“Why is it that whenever a pub is mentioned the 'we have a right to lung cancer and should be allowed to inflict passive smoking' brigade all pipe up (pardon the pun) and bleat about the smoking ban?
It's here and it will NEVER EVER change back. It's only a matter of time before you won't be able to pollute public spaces and parks (already happening in the US). I really look forward to it. It would be nice to walk down the High Street without going through clouds of smoke. Sorry, I just value my health and prefer to breath air. You probably wouldn't understand.
Cheer up though, I'm sure you'll always be able to self-harm in the privacy of your own home and affect the health of your family. Lucky them...”

“"It is far better for a employer to give their employees a sense of worth by paying respectable hourly rates"
If the applicant doesn't like the hourly rate, they have the free will to choose another job to apply for. In order to ascend a career ladder one must take the first step.”

“"yes it's 12 jobs all paying the minimum pocket money wage that you can't live on, SOME JOBS!!!!......."
But when supplimented with working tax credits or as part time work for students, do you not think it better that people have some money coming in to give them a sense of worth?
