New bike pods combat theft and promote fitness at Boston health club
IMPROVEMENTS to Boston's Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex continue with the latest addition to aid health, fitness, the environment and security.
The latest police-approved bicycle 'pods' have been installed to encourage visitors to the pools and gym to arrive on two wheels.
One of the first to try out the secure bike pods was Boston Borough Council's bicycling portfolio holder for community safety, councillor Stephen Woodliffe.
He said: "It's much better if more of us cycle as it's healthier and much greener than using the car.
"And, now those arriving at the complex by bicycle can leave them secure, safe in the knowledge that they will still be here when they go to leave."
The pods allow bikes to be locked into them using the owner's own security device.
Within hours of the pods being installed ten bicycle owners were making use of them.
Currently they can accommodate a maximum of 12 bikes but more are on the way to provide secure storage for 20.
The pods can be easily seen by staff working inside the complex and they are also covered by CCTV.
