New sports stadium in Skegness could bring in 800 visitors a week
EMPLOYMENT opportunities and the economy of Skegness are expected to be significantly boosted if the sports stadium gets approval.
Skegness Town Council, town centre partnership and the business community have been working hard to generate investment into the coast, supporting local businesses and create employment all year round.
The stadium is the second major attraction to be announced for the town in the last few weeks, with plans underway for an all-year round covered walkway, entertainment stage and water fountains between the pier and Botton's pleasure beach, sitting alongside the sports stadium.
Jimmy Botton, Chairman of Skegness Partnership, said: "This project adds value to our proposal to landscape Scarbrough Esplanade and fits perfect in this location."

Russ Sparks, who owns the Grosvenor House Hotel and is supporting the project, said: "This could bring an extra 800 people here for weekly tournaments. An extra 800 people in Skegness every week of the year will do wonders for the town. Hotels along the whole coastline will be able to employ more people all the year round."
Skegness Mayor, Councillor Mark Anderson, said: "This is a fantastic initiative for Skegness and surrounding areas. We want to move Skegness into a new culture with different events and to extend the season to create jobs.
"This is fantastic news for our community to have international beach football teams in Skegness. I can see this really lifting off. It's a win-win for all of us."
Councillor Craig Leyland, portfolio holder for economic development at East Lindsey District Council, said: "Skegness and East Lindsey welcome investment and opportunities to develop the tourist offer to attract new visitors to the area.
"As the site for the proposed development is within the district council's ownership, we look forward to working with the facility managers, should it gain planning approval, to ensure the events raise the profile of Skegness and East Lindsey in a positive way."
