According to information released on Boston Borough Council's website as part of the process, the objectives in question are the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety and protection of children from harm.
The application by the police comes a few months after a judge said he would refer After Dark to the police and Boston Borough Council when sentencing four people for carrying out an unprovoked, alcohol-fuelled assault on a stranger.
The borough council's licensing sub-committee will consider the police's request for a review at a hearing which will be held after the December 21 deadline for representations to be made on the application.
A council spokesman said no date had been set for the hearing, but it was expected to be in January.
If it chooses to take action the sub-committee - which will be made up of three councillors - has the power to revoke or suspend the night club's licence to serve alcohol, remove the designated premise supervisor from the licence or impose extra conditions on the licence.
The Target contacted After Dark for a comment on the police application, but at the time of going to press no response had been received.
Anyone who wants to make a representation about the review request should write to Licensing Section, Boston Borough Council, Municipal Buildings, West Street, Boston, Lincolnshire PE21 8QR.
