ANGLIAN Water's hosepipe ban is being supported by North Kesteven District Council.

The council has been working with Anglian Water to map its water usage at its Sleaford Civic Offices and Metheringham waste and recycling depot. The authority's total annual use is around 5200m3.

North Kesteven is in one of the driest areas of the country, which has seen its driest 18 months for more than 100 years. The council has had its Sleaford offices audited by Anglian Water, who found them in excellent condition. Metheringham waste and recycling depot scheduled for audit and fitted 'Freddie frog flush reducers' for its Sleaford office toilets.

North Kesteven District Council is also working with partners like Sodexo and Leisure Connection to reduce water use. Leisure Connection has already installed water-saving aerated showers and taps, toilet cistern bags, urinal controls and water conditioning to reduce limescale and is also installing smart meters, benchmarking and analysing water use as part of a "good housekeeping" approach to water use.

As a result of the drought and hosepipe ban the authority has taken the following additional measures:

Reducing waste and recycling vehicle washing from once a fortnight to once a month, cleaning only headlights and number plates in between

Requiring the gardener at sheltered housing schemes to observe the hosepipe ban and water only as absolutely necessary with a watering can

Promoting the advice developed by sports governing bodies to ensure the safety and performance of outdoor pitches is maintained during the water shortage

Offering to install a 'Freddie frog flush reducer' to tenants in 400 sheltered housing scheme homes.

Lincolnshire residents can take advantage of special prices on water butts and compost bins, with the added bonus of buying a second butt or compost bin half price.

For more information visit www.getcomposting. com or call 0844 571 4444, quoting reference LCC02l to buy. Slimline water butts are available where space is restricted.
