Open day highlights allotment facilities
WYBERTON West Allotment Association is holding an open day on Saturday, August 24.
The allotment association was formed in July 2009.
A spokesman for the association said: "Due to changes in allotment policy, the main aim of becoming an association is to be a cost effective, non-profit making organisation. We also want to involve the local community by holding regular meetings to develop further interest in allotments and leisure and gardening among its members and the local community.
"We also aim to encourage a healthy lifestyle."
There is a communal area on the site at Wyberton West Road including barbecues and seats with a newly painted mini orchard, soon to be extended to include a wild flower meadow.
A shop and other facilities are planned for the future with the help of local funding and heritage lottery grant which the association is in the process of applying for.
The open day takes place from 10am to 4pm.
