Another open mic session and pledge day has been organised to help raise funds for a new community arts festival called Lincoln Inspired.

The team behind the festival, which will take place from May 7-12, will be back at Lincoln Drill Hall on Saturday, March 2, hoping to encourage more people to pledge pounds and pennies and become festival volunteers.

"Things are really beginning to take shape now thanks to our supporters and some very generous sponsorship from local people and businesses," says Lincoln Inspired chairman Sara Bullimore.

"We have most of the key events on the programme in place and there's some really exciting artists, authors and performers from the city and beyond who are going to be part of it. We will be announcing our headliners soon but in the meantime we need to keep doing all we can to boost our funds."

Members of the Inspired team, who are all volunteers, will be at the venue's cafe bar from 11am. They can answer questions about what's planned, talk about the fundraising effort and explain what's involved to anyone who'd like to become a festival volunteer.

In addition, Sam from The Sanctuary Room in Lincoln will be offering free massages, and extra bonus rewards will be available for people who pledge money on the day. In the afternoon there will be another open mic session, where performers are welcome to take to the stage in return for a minimum donation of £1. Lincoln indie-folk band The Enclosed Garden have already signed up. Throughout the day visitors will also have the chance to become a screen star as a new Inspired promotional video will be filmed for the fundraising campaign and Inspired website.

A Doctor Who event, comedy, children's storytelling, jazz, astronomy and crime writing are already in the programme – full details will be revealed at the end of March.
