And now, Premier Inn have confirmed that the hotel will not open as planned as a new contractor has not been appointed to complete the building work.

A Premier Inn spokesperson said: "We are very disappointed that due to circumstances beyond our control we are continuing to wait for our developer, Seven Capital Hotels, to appoint a new contractor to complete the works.

"Therefore, it is with regret that we cannot confirm a completion date at this stage.

"As a result we are ensuring that any customers who have made a booking are contacted and offered a choice to either re-book at another local Premier Inn, honouring the price they originally paid or cancel with a full refund."

“About the only surprise here is that it took them this long to come out and admit it.

People on this site, including me, were saying before Christmas it wasn't going to happen. You go past it today and there's still no-one in there working, so why they thought it'd be ready by Valentines day I have no idea.”
