Residents vow to block waste transfer site proposal
ANGRY villagers have vowed to block plans to build a waste transfer station near their homes.
More than 100 people attended a public meeting to discuss plans by Lincolnshire County Council to build the station at Kirton Distribution Park near the A16.

Residents and Kirton Parish Council say they have concerns about smell, flies, an increase in the number of lorries using Wash Road and possible devaluing of housing.
More than 400 people have signed a petition against the proposal and parish council chairman Councillor Alan Lee is hoping people power will bring the plans to a halt.
He said: "We cannot see any benefit for the village whatsoever.
"We are going to put together a package to give to the county council to object to this.
"If these plans go ahead it will not just be blue bin rubbish, it will be green bin waste too.
"No-one agrees with these plans. We are not against waste management, just the plans of placing this in the centre of the village.
"We are not going to lay down and be trodden on. We are utterly against this."
The county council says the Kirton site is one of many in the county being looked at and people have until October 8 to put their views across.
Head of planning Alan Freeman said: "The council is currently consulting on options for preparing the guiding policies for the development of waste and minerals facilities and sites over the next 15 years.
"Comments received will be considered, including those from technical bodies, before any sites are selected.
"Even after selection the inclusion of sites may, if objections are maintained, be the subject of local public inquiry. Objectors and developers would put their cases to an independent planning inspector for consideration.
"The findings of the inspector would then have to be looked at carefully by the county council."
Kirton Parish Council will be discussing a package to hand to the county council to back up its objections at its next meeting in the town hall on September 16.
