Peter Swann has revealed talks to hand over Gainsborough Trinity to new owners are gathering pace as he prepares to walk away from the club.

After the Blues Club, owners of the Northolme, rejected his latest offer to buy the ground, Swann is poised to sever ties with the club at the end of the season.

However, the Trinity chairman insists he will not leave the club in the lurch and has held talks with "three or four parties" who are ready to take over the running of the Blues in the summer.

Swann says the new owners will inherit a club fit for purpose in either Blue Square Bet North or the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Ahead of Saturday's trip to Oxford City, the Blues are well placed to reach the play-offs for the second consecutive season.

"I've spoken to a mixture of people," said Swann.

"There are individuals and groups containing a mixture of businessmen and fans.

"None of them have huge amounts of money, but they are all good people and they could take the club on, provided they pass the FA's fit and proper persons test, which I'm sure they would.

"Whoever comes in, they will inherit a club in a healthy position. The players are there and we have a very good manager.

"We're in a strong position in the league and we have a great opportunity to go up.

"The most important thing is that the club continues to move forward and is challenging every season."

Swann has held budget talks about next season with manager Steve Housham for both the Blue Square Bet North and the Blue Square Bet Premier.

"Based on the money the club has brought in this season and what cash it would generate in the BSP (Blue Square Bet Premier), we can say to the new owners 'you can run the club on this figure in Blue Square North and this figure in the Premier'," explained Swann, who is not prepared to continue running the club without owning the ground.

“How short sighted they have been.

A burgeoning town with real potential for a good ground to kick on and get promotion.

A decent stadium would have better players queuing up to join.

Please take over at Lincoln City, Peter. Replace the fool on our hill.

    Good luck, Peter!”

“I wonder if Peter Swann would be interested in investing into the Imps revival?”
