PLANS are already being made for next year's district-wide SO Festival.

East Lindsey District Council's Executive Board authorised to extend two company contracts for an additional year to help deliver the next SO Festival.

They are Magnetics Events Limited as the 2013 Festival Director and Lava Communications to provide additional resources and expertise in marketing the East Lindsey Live brand and SO Festival 2013.

The executive board also authorised officers to submit a funding application to the Arts Council. Cllr Adam Grist, portfolio holder for leisure, said: "It has made a real difference in everything we do around art and culture and it does make a difference in terms of tourism."

Cllr Grist said both Magnetic and Lava are seen as key partners to help prepare for next year's event. He said they do want to undertake a very robust tendering process for 2014 and beyond.

He said: "For the following year it is time we do go out to tender and go to market. By that time we would have had five years of holding similar events and the internal team here have developed good experience, knowledge and database for putting on such events."

Cllr John Upsall, portfolio holder for finance, said: "The SO Festival has created a lot of economical benefit not just on the coast but elsewhere."

Since 2009, the festival has generated £3.36m of additional spend within the local economy and helped position Skegness as a top five UK seaside resort.

The 2013 SO Festival will be from June 28-July 7, subject to the confirmation of the budget.
