Poor weather conditions hamper record attempts for Retford cyclists
LAST weekend's shipping forecast from the Met Office warned of showers with gusts to force eight in the Humber shipping area.
Conditions were much the same for the Team Swift Charity 10-mile time-trials held on the Brough course near Hull, where 320 of some of Britain's best time trialists were on the start sheet for what could have seen a new competition record, however the weather did its best to ensure that no records would be broken.

A high number of competitors did fail to start because of the conditions, but not the three Retford and District Wheelers who faced the time keeper knowing that there would be no personal bests achieved on this occasion.
Tony Keyworth was the first of the Wheelers to finish, recording 24 minutes and 15 seconds, in the morning event, almost two minutes off his personal best time.
In the afternoon event, conditions had further deteriorated with the in-form Dominic Smith managing 24 minutes and 30 seconds and Paul Austin almost a minute slower with 25 minutes and 24 seconds.
Smith and Austin were back in action the following day. Riding in the Coalville Wheelers two-up Team Time Trial over 25 miles, the pair recorded a disappointing one hour, four minutes and 24 seconds over a sporting course based on Griffydam, Leicestershire.
Last weekend's club ride was the monthly outing for new riders.
Sixteen riders turned out for a wet and windswept spin around the Trent side villages.
The club run this Sunday will be to Sudbrooke, Lincolnshire. The total distance will be about 65 miles and will include a cafe stop. Meet in the market square at 9am.
