THE countdown is on for one of Sleaford's biggest events - The Poppy Prom.

So far 120 tickets have been sold for the event at St Deny's Church, held to launch the Sleaford and district branch of the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.

The prom has been organised in conjunction with The Target and the Sleaford and District RBL which is now urging people to get their tickets so they do not miss out.

Branch chairman Lt Col Ian Graham said: "This year's event is expected to follow on from the success of last year's sell out performance.

"The demand for tickets already looks very good.

"The Poppy Prom is held to launch the Poppy Appeal in the Sleaford area. The money raised goes back into the RBL funds. Nationally the legion has helped more people than ever before and certainly in Sleaford, that is reflected in the amount of work we are doing with welfare.

"There were 1,100 visits carried out in Sleaford and district area over the year."

The Poppy Prom will star the Sleaford Concert Band and feature a wide musical programme when it takes place on Saturday, October 23, at St Deny's Church, Sleaford at 7.30pm. Lincolnshire Co-operative Funeral Services, a major backer of the past two years' events, has again offered its support in sponsoring a number of tickets, which will be distributed to local branch members, and providing chauffeured limousine transport to and from St Denys' Church for less-mobile branch members, as well as those living in outlying areas.

Tickets cost £7 from Keith Dolby Jewellers, in Bristol Arcade and the Sleaford Target office, 4 Mill Court, Carre Street.
