Pull out all the stops to get bridge in place
SINCE the announcement that Boston's St Botolph Bridge was to be replaced by a £750,000 spectacular new one, there has been a great deal of public opinion either for or against it.
Gradually though, excitement has been growing and the design which the public has chosen would create a wonderful entrance to our town from the coach park to entice would-be shoppers and its much improved surface will be much safer especially for those with physical disabilities.
In Lincolnshire County News Autumn edition page three, the statement reads " work is now well under way" Oh dear,Oh dear! what an embarrassment for Lincolnshire County Council because as we now all know there isn't a bridge being built because there is a delay.
The reasons for the delay have not yet been given to the good people of Boston but rumours have it that there is a design fault and if this is true it is a disgraceful turn of events to discover this so late in the programme. This bridge, which has been built locally in Scunthorpe began it's construction many months ago and it was expected to be in place for the beginning of December and although there would be disruptions, the photo of it in against the back drop of our magnificent St Botolph's Church was a delight to see.

Surely Boston should have been warned much earlier that there was a potential problem.
Lincoln enjoys a vibrant City centre promoting a wonderful shopping experience mixed with Historical and Cultural festivities. Here in Boston we are trying to do the same but if our county friends do not take us seriously then things are worse than I thought.
If you think that your Boston Borough councillors know anything, you will be disappointed. As usual we are waiting cap in hand for someone to enlighten us.
If this Bridge is to be delayed much longer, it won't be finished in time for the build up to the festive season. Consideration must be given to the shops, markets and local businesses who will lose many customers in the run up to the busiest time of the year.
If Lincolnshire County Council have any respect for Boston and it's good people, they will now pull out all the stops to get the project completed and give us the spectacular bridge they have so publicly assured us is well under way.
