AN UNUSUAL tipple has hit the shelves at a city store in time for Hallowe'en.

The wine, on sale at Lombard Wines in Lincoln's High Street, uses pumpkins for a distinct flavour.

And with its aromatic fruity flavours, golden texture and alcohol rating of 13 per cent it is becoming a popular choice.

Lombard owner Sue Frecklington said: "Our home-brewed pumpkin wine is guaranteed to be a winter warmer for those cold spooky nights.

"If you've never tasted it before it's similar to a medium fruity white wine.We start the fermentation in November, with white grape juice, and then add the pumpkin juice to ensure we get the full fruity flavour."
