Pupils celebrating first day of new Burton Hathow Preparatory School near Lincoln
More than 40 excited pupils travelled through the snow for the very first day of a new private school, near Lincoln.
Burton Hathow Preparatory School, in Burton off the A57, opened its doors today after planning permission was granted back in October.
The school is set in a picturesque woodland setting on the site of an old farm, with more than four acres covered by trees.
Pupils will be taught the importance of caring for the environment and understanding the world around them, combining "real life" skills with academia.

Head teacher Penny Ford, who previously worked at St Mary's Preparatory School in the city, said: "The first day has been a bit surreal but it's a huge occasion and history in the making.
"It's all come around so quickly and everyone is just so excited to be here.
"The snow has also helped make it extremely magical.
"I feel privileged to be a part of this and see it all happen."
Pupils gave a special presentation to parents to mark the first day of the school and began collating ideas for a time capsule, which will be buried on January 14, 2014.
More pupils are set to join the school in Easter, with a second wave also due in September. There are also plans to add new classrooms and buildings.

“'History in the marking' indeed - is that a perfectly wonderful typographical error, a spelling mistake, or what was actually said?
Whatever it is, there was such grave internal discontent when the former St Mary's prep school was absorbed by the Minster School ... and so many problems surrounding the short-lived new head of lower school there (a couple of years ago) that it's unsurprising that a competitor school for the St Mary's / Minster has sprung up.
To a disinterested outsider it seemed that the city had gone from three independent schools (Stonefield House, The Cathedral (Minster) and St Mary's to a Minster School monopoly ... now parents will at least have another independent preparatory school to choose from and, whatever choice they make, another prep school available to move their youngest children to should they become dissatisfied.
Let's hope it's not a case of 'and may the better school win'.
But, in the current economic climate, it may well be ....”
