Pupils praised for 'outstanding' behaviour at Lincolnshire primary school

BEHAVIOUR and safety of pupils at a village school has been hailed as "outstanding" by Ofsted inspectors.

They also graded the Quadring Cowley and Brown's Primary School overall as "good" following a two-day visit by an inspection team.

In her report lead inspector Jane Melbourne said: "Behaviour is well managed across the school.

"Lessons are interesting and pupils are engaged in their learning, so misbehaviour is extremely rare.

"This is recognised by parents and can be attributed to the school's effective planning for pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, staff's very high expectations for behaviour and the atmosphere of mutual respect that pervades the school."

Speaking about the "exciting" curriculum, the inspector said that teachers "aspire to provide a curriculum that will fire up and inspire children in every class without exception."

Ms Melbourne said that "all pupils' needs are well considered, there is a real focus on the application of learning and that children at the school have a real thirst for learning."

The inspector recognised the quality of learning across the school placing particular emphasis on Key Stage One with pupils, "making at least good progress in all areas, with particularly accelerated progress in reading."

She praised the Key Stage One teacher for having, "a good understanding of leading phonics." She was equally complimentary of the Early Years Foundation Stage, recognising the "vibrant learning environment which is very literate and numerate with exciting opportunities for children to initiate learning inside and outside, with the outdoors mirroring the good quality of learning inside."

The report goes on to say that: "There is regular outstanding teaching in Key Stage Two.

"In these lessons, there is a real buzz of excitement as pupils are so absorbed in what they are doing and having fun."

Leadership and management were said to be moving rapidly towards outstanding with the governing body becoming increasingly effective and impacting on school improvement.

Headteacher Nicola Wilkinson said everyone at the school was "thrilled" with the inspection.
