Pupils call for a rethink on recycling
SCHOOL pupils are starting their new term by trying to get locals to change their recycling habits.
Children from Ling Moor Primary School, St Michael's School in Thorpe on the Hill, the Washingborough Foundation primaries and North Kesteven School have created a film, entitled Rethink, to encourage people to dispose of waste carefully and reduce contamination in their bins.
The project was developed by Lincolnshire County Council's Sustainable Schools team to help the schools teach about the benefits of recycling and how it works.
Kim Hudson, Sustainable Schools advisor, said: "The students were given the opportunity to visit industrial sites not normally open to the public.
"They saw first-hand why it's important to recycle the correct items.
"They also got to film where some of our landfill waste ends up and realised that recycling is a crucial part of waste reduction.
"The experience was an eye-opener for them and we hope the film is likewise for others."
