Richard Butcher has not accepted Imps' pay-off offer
Out-of-favour Richard Butcher is sitting tight on his Lincoln City contract, despite being offered a deal to leave the Imps.
Depleted City, who are without three key players – Nathan Baker, Chris Herd and Adam Watts – travel to Chesterfield today (3pm) in desperate need of defensive cover, with only three fit central defenders.

Richard Butcher.
However, manager Chris Sutton is unlikely to conduct much business when the loan window re-opens next week, especially while players such as Butcher (pictured main) and youngster Sam Clucas are still on the books.
The pair, both signed by Peter Jackson in the summer, have been presented with offers to settle their contracts but they have resisted so far.
Butcher, 29, has only made five appearances for the Imps since Sutton's arrival and has not played for the first team since City's 2-0 defeat at Rotherham on November 24.
"We have certainly made offers to both players," said Sutton.
"They are decent offers but Richard Butcher is a problem, because of his wages.
"He does not seem overly keen on moving on in any shape or form which is his right.
"However, if I was him, I would want to go out and play football but he does not seem to want to do that at the moment."

“Not impressed with Sutton's comments in this article at all. Butcher has played 5 games under Sutton and he deems that enough make him an outcast and go on record saying he is a problem because of his wages. Reading the comments in this and Fridays article, it seems the majority of fans are behind Butch and would like to see him given another chance. Echo maybe you could run a story on how we fans are behind him and don't want to see him bullyed out of the club, whether Sutton reads it or not is another question and acting on it even less but fan power is underated”

“from what i can see sutton has moved a lot of players on to let up wages i am sure butcher is not on that much. sutton should let butcher train with the first team and play in the reserves if only for the lad to keep match fit.
from i can see sutton has tryed to bulling butcher out good on butcher for standing his ground.
in hindsight we carnt say butcher would have played well for us or not because he has not been given a chance by suttton in midfeild. the games he did play he set goals up and we won.
sutton has brought a lot of players in and they are playing so how much are they being paid.”

“Sutton do well..don't make me laff...At least the Peterborough board had the courage to realise Mark Cooper was not working and sacked him, I doubt whether the City board have the same courage.”

“Butcher has every right to stay at lincoln he has not been given a chance by sutton he has never trained in midfeild with the first team and has not been given a fair run in the team. He has scored goals where ever he has gone. He has score over 50 goals in his career its a shame it should come to an end because of sutton.
sutton has shut him out big time by not even playing him in the reserves if he played and scored goals in the reserves we would want him in our first team.”

“So the local boy doesn't want to give up a good wage, a settled life and the club he loves to get a wage cut, a derisory (?) payoff and the chance to play non league. Just one question tho', if Sutty does well this season who'll still be here for the start of next season. I supect it may be the local boy.”
