Rival Miss Lincoln City pageant could see tiaras at dawn

IT looks like becoming the battle of the Lincolnshire lovelies.

As reported in the Echo, the Miss Lincolnshire beauty pageant is making a comeback this year after a three-year hiatus.

Lovely ladies from across the county have the chance to win the Lincolnshire title, be crowned Miss England and even Miss World.

But there could be tiaras at dawn after it has emerged that Miss England's rival organisation Miss Great Britain has launched Miss Lincoln City as one of its new regional titles.

Liz Fuller, the new owner of Miss Great Britain and a former holder of the title herself, is this year lifting the ban on single mothers.

The self-confessed feminist feels that the old rule of banning single mothers springs from a typically male preconception that beautiful young girls need to be virginal and is out of touch with reality.

"Girls have forgotten how to be kind to each other and the modelling business has become too bitchy and competitive," she said.

"I wish to encourage girls to help each other."

Another change is relegating the swimsuit round back to the 1970s and instead allowing personality, strength of character, warmth and kindness to shine through.

Graham Would, the previous organiser of Miss Lincoln for the past three years – linked to Miss England – has stepped down due to work commitments.

He had run Miss Lincolnshire for two years before it was renamed Miss Lincoln.

Now Richard Wycherley and Simon Dayman, owners of Lincoln firm Wingit PR, have been granted a licence from Miss England and have announced the launch of Miss Lincolnshire 2010.

Girls aged 17 to 24 who are not married and do not have children from across the county are welcome to enter.

For more details on how to enter either contest, see Monday's Echo.

“Quote: 'The self-confessed feminist ' - that's a strange thing to say. There is nothing wrong with being a feminist, so how can one 'confess' to being one?
Also, it beggars belief that a 'feminist' can be involved with a so called beauty pageant.
    How we have regressed.”

“At least Miss Lincoln City sounds a little more realistic (I still oppose it though). If the swimsuit is being relegated that means fatties can enter wearing corsets to hold in the blubber. How on earth personality, character, warmth and kindness can manifest itself in an interview of a few minutes is beyond me.
I knew I'd be the first to post on this article, ah well back to the washing-up.”
