County swimmer Rob Welbourn scorched to gold at the European Disability Championships last night.

The Lincoln Vulcan, 22, cantered to victory by 10 metres in his premier event, the 400m freestyle, at the championships in the Icelandic capital Reykjavik.

The win takes Welbourn's medal haul to three after he collected silver in the 4x100m medley relay and bronze in the 200m individual medley.

Welbourn's winning time of 4:09.35 was only marginally slower than his own European record.

Welbourn competes in the 50m freestyle today.
