Rogue waste removal men cost Lincoln businessman £1,000
A Lincoln businessman has appeared in court after rogue waste removal men failed to deal with his company's waste properly.
John Spencer, owner of the Oakwood Premier Store in Birchwood, was fined £440, forced to pay costs of £671 and given a victim surcharge of £15, totalling £1,126.

Mr Spencer pleaded guilty to the charge of section 34(1) Environmental Protection Act 1990, for failing to make reasonable checks to ensure that he transferred his commercial waste to an authorised carrier.
His waste was found on Hooks Lane near Wellingore, where officers found documentation relating to the Oakwood store.

He had paid two men £70 cash to take it away.
The court was told by Mr Spencer’s solicitor that he was very sorry he allowed this to happen and that Mr Spencer cooperated fully with the council.
Businesses ad residents are reminded that checking paperwork and identification when using alternative waste disposal services is vital.
Councillor Richard Wright from North Kesteven District Council said: "We cannot stress enough how important it is that people check who they are letting take away their belongings for waste disposal.
“It is difficult when the waste has come from outside of the district but we have to keep our message clear, there is no excuse for fly-tipping in our district."

“People should check credentials of anyone doing work on the cheap any fool knows that and if you ignore advice then you deserve any punishment handed out .
Any business with only a mobile phone number should sound alarms bells to anyone wanting work done because when they have gone with your money and you find the work is substandard there is no way of tracing the culprit.There is plenty of crooks about but not knowing who is and who isn't a crook is the hard part.”
