Royal Mail delivery office in Mablethorpe threatened with closure
AN uncertain future lies ahead for Mablethorpe's Royal Mail delivery office as it faces possible closure.
The company has confirmed it is currently undertaking a 'scoping exercise' looking at transferring its mail operation from the Somersby Avenue site to Alford delivery office.

UNCERTAIN FUTURE: Royal Mail is currently looking at options for streamlining its service which could see Mablethorpe's delivery office operations transferred to Alford.
Royal Mail spokeswoman Morag Turnbull said: "Faced with declining mail volumes and increasingly tough trading conditions, Royal Mail constantly reviews the operational efficiency and commercial practicality of all its units.
"As part of our business-wide modernisation programme, we are currently undertaking one of the biggest transformations in UK industry.

"Royal Mail is therefore investing in new technology and equipment and upgrading operational facilities.
"This is in order to ensure that we have world class facilities which provide the most efficient and effective network for delivering the post. At the same time, we must respond to the huge growth in electronic communications and the resulting decline in overall mail volumes.
"With this decline in mail volumes we must modernise our operations and the consolidation of delivery offices will play a major part in allowing us to place the business on a sound, secure and stable footing.
"At this stage we are simply considering our options and have made no final decision regarding our operation at Mablethorpe. However, we have shared our plans for this scoping exercise with our people and will continue to work with them and the Unions in the future."
In the UK, mail volumes have declined by 25 per cent in recent years, and Royal Mail now delivers, on average, 59 million items a day.

Don't think Royal Mail as been sold down the river by the Government YET but it's on the cards.
It as only been opened up to private company's to handle mail not sold off but gearing up for the sell off.”

“Where is the logic of closing the Mablethorpe office, with a population of of 12000 (double in the summer), to move to a place with little more than 3000? Service, available personnel, convenience, are all compromised. The Post Office has failed to recognise for years their need to change with the times. Closing offices will not solve their problems which are much more deep-seated.”

“While I agree that management seems to be a fashionable accessory rather than an actual need, the fact is, when the Royal Mail was sold off, It was in the state of collapse due to years and years of mismanagement. They could only borrow so much from the banks and the rest had to come from shareholders. While the shareholders put up the cash initially, they expect a good payout each year and that's what cripples most companies. The millions and millions paid out each year, could be put to better use, unfortunately, it's the contract they signed and have to abide by it. Then you've got the unions, HSE ridiculous costs in red tape, extra cost in taxes and PAYE contributions which are really hitting larger companies lately. It all goes towards fouling up the employability of people in this country.”
