Ruskington sisters battle to top of Mount Snowdon in memory of mum
TWO sisters from Ruskington battled through the pain to top Mount Snowdon in the loving memory of their late mother.
Susan Edwards, husband Andrew and sister Sharon Hardwick climbed Mount Snowdon in memory of their mother Betty Kilburn who died of lung cancer at the age of 71.
Mrs Kilburn was given 18 months to live after being diagnosed with cancer but died after just three months.
Following Mrs Kilburn's death in 2007, her daughters started fundraising in their mother's memory for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Mrs Edwards said: "The blisters and aches and pains are nothing in comparison to making people aware that early diagnosis saves lives, while at the same time showing our guardian angel of a mother that never a day goes by without missing her.
"Mum showed us all such courage, we just want to do the same in her name and in her memory. It was hard work for all of us however, Andrew had been up a couple of times before so he knew what to expect.
"It was worthwhile and self educational. To do something like this to raise money for a valiant cause that effects so many people of all ages, in the name of our darling mother, was all the motivation we needed."
Despite rock falls which made both ascending, and descending, very difficult for the climbers descended via the Miners' Track.
Mrs Edwards added: "Sharon did struggle at the very steep and very tall steps near the summit. She said at one point she couldn't go on but then gave herself a talking to and said out loud, as she started to ascend again, 'mum fought a much harder battle than this. This mountain is not going to beat me.' And off she went with renewed gusto.
"It was an experience we will never forget but one we probably will not repeat."
They are now planning to do Hadrian's Wall next year. The amount raised is not yet known.
