ON your marks, get set and get ready for the Great Sleaford Duck Race.
Two thousand plastic ducks are on sale courtesy of Sainsbury’s, Sleaford, to be decorated and launched into the river next to the store carpark at midday on Saturday, March 2, for Comic Relief.
The owner of the duck to reach the finish line first will receive a prize and there will also be prizes for the best decorated ducks.
Debbie Wrightson, store manager, said: “We want people to be creative with their ducks.

“The ducks will obviously be getting wet but permanent marker can be used to decorate or sequins could be fixed to them for example.”
The race is part of the branch’s list of fundraising activities they have planned to support Comic Relief this year.
Other events include a Valentine’s Cake Sale, a bingo night at the Legion, an inter-store football match and a charity disco evening.
Debbie said: “A lot of people think that the money raised from Comic Relief all goes abroad but in fact a lot of the money raised is spent in the UK and several charities in the local area have received funding from it.
“Last year the store together with the local community raised £7,500 and this year we want to do even better and reach £10,000.
“This is a great time to pull all the community together so we’re going to be working with local schools, RAF camps, businesses and anyone else who’d like to get involved.”
To take part in the Great Sleaford Duck Race you can purchase a duck from the Sainsbury’s store, Southgate, for £2 with all proceeds going to Comic Relief.
