However, there have been suggestions that staff could have the chance to join a rival after Dixons outlined plans to take on seasonal workers.

The owner of PC World and Currys has also delayed its normal Christmas recruitment drive, when it expects to take on an additional 2,000 temporary shop staff, to offer Comet employees the opportunity to join the business.

Comet was placed into administration on Friday.

“i think it's sad all the big corps are closing.
of course on line products are cheaper, they dont have the over heads these places have.
comet would have been better off going on line only a long time ago and under cutting the other big leccy stores.”

“All electrical retailers are just the same with very poor after sales service ,not wanting to admit faults and getting faults fixed or money refunded .Over inflated prices are a common accurance in most shops. Better to shop online for better bargains which more people are doing .
No wonder retailers are finding it hard if you can get things for less elsewhere.”

“Dixons are probably hoping to have to pay less wages out for seasonal staff this year. You'll be able to tell the ex-Comet staff. They'll be the ones that swarm round you the minute you walk into the store and give you dirty looks if you start asking too many questions about anything! And god help those that try to look around and decide themselves what they want. I went to Comet with a mate to get him a new TV a few weeks ago. The assistant did her best to push him into buying the most expensive/hardest to sell TV's. When I told my friend that a Samsung TV with a big reduction on it plus various freebies including a HD Blueray player was what he wanted her looks could have killed me. Going through checkout I've never seen such a miserable looking sales assistant.”

“Went in this afternoon....Wow... a massive TEN PER CENT off their already inflated prices! Most retailers cut more than that in a normal sale. Scores of people leaving empty handed, muttering that Comet can't even manage a fire sale efficiently.
I'd give it a few days if I were you.”
