Sam Lowes pipped by Kenan Sofuoglu at Phillip Island World Supersport race
Sam Lowes was forced to settle for second place at the opening round of the World Supersport Championship after being edged out by three-time champion Kenan Sofuoglu.
Pole-sitter Lowes was favourite for victory at Phillip Island after dominating practice and qualifying on his Yakhnich Yamaha.
However, following an exciting battle between the pair, which saw them trade places on numerous occasions, it was Kawasaki's Sofuoglu who got his campaign off to a winning start.
The race confirmed pre-season expectations that the title will be a two-way fight between the young Lincoln rider and the experienced Turk.
