Sam Lowes rounds off championship year with Jerez win
Sam Lowes rounded off his championship-winning season and his World Supersport career with another victory at Jerez yesterday.
With the title already in the bag, the Lincoln rider was embroiled in yet another battle with Turkish rider Kenan Sofuoglu before sprinting clear of his rival over the final two laps.
The victory at the Spanish circuit was the Yakhnich Yamaha man’s sixth of a momentous season for the 23-year-old, who won the British Supersport crown in 2010.
“I had good pace all weekend, but I knew Kenan would be strong in the race,” said Lowes. “I enjoyed the race a lot and I have enjoyed the season a lot.
“Both myself and Kenan can hold our heads high, it’s been a great season.”
Lowes, who will move to Moto2 with Speed Up in 2014, then saw his twin brother Alex secure the British Superbike title in dramatic fashion at Brands Hatch.
