Sausage campaign goes to Downing Street
A campaign to protect the identity of the Lincolnshire sausage has been taken to Downing Street.
Lobbyists have submitted a petition to Number 10 in a bid to safeguard the recipe of the county's favourite banger.

The petition calls for the Prime Minister to "support Protected Geographical Indication status for Lincolnshire Sausages".
The aim is to make sure only an approved recipe can be made by county producers, meaning a boost for local traders.

It has been put forward by Janet Godfrey of the Lincolnshire Sausage Association.
She said: "PGI status for Lincolnshire sausages would mean that they could only be manufactured in the historic county of Lincolnshire according to the specified criteria.
"This would support the numerous small producers that we have in the county and prevent inferior products from reaching the market."
Supporters will be able to sign the petition online until November 6.
The call for support follows a five year fight started by the Echo to protect the Lincolnshire sausage by European law.
Since the Save Our Sausages campaign began, MPs and Ministers have given their backing to the campaign – including Mr Brown himself who tucked into a breakfast of Lincolnshire sausages on Budget day when he was Chancellor.
Campaigner and butcher at Lincoln's Elite Meats Kenny Roberts said: "We're hopeful that if we get the Prime Minister's support it might help sway Defra to make the decision we're all after.
"I'll be putting up signs in the shop and letting people know about it when they come here, so there is a good chance we'll get a lot of support."

“We have been caravanning for 40 years now and we have tried sausages from the different counties as we have travelled over the years and we have found that the best sausage we have ever had is produced in Lincolnshire, it is for us the best you can buy.
we also think it is unique in its taste and texture and should have only the name of Lincolnshire sausage if it is produced in this county from the ingredients sourced from this county.”

I`ve eaten them all my life, and sorry boys, the best Lincolnshire I have had in my life I get from a chap just outside Ross-On-Wye when I`m down there.
If he couldn`t call them Lincolnshire anymore, they would still be the same, they would still be the best for me, and I would still be buying them along with the locals...”

“A side from politicians leaping on bandwagons claiming kudos and photo ops from no little or no input from them selves.
I can't understand why geographic status wasn't granted to Lincolnshire sausages on the grounds that the recipe could be replicated anywhere. Surely that argument can be made of Melton Mowbray Pork Pies or Stilton Cheese both of which have the status sought for the Lincolnshire Sausage.
By the way, Kenny makes cracking bangers.”

Anyone who saw him in the house answering questions this week knows that.
That was certainly a man with no answers i saw, or backbone for that matter.
